9 things to remember on a “Terrible” Tiger Woods day

Just yesterday I was at the Waste Management Phoenix Open PGA event with my buddy Ben. We were stoked to sit perched high above the 18th green in the Bank of America suite as we watch most of the players come through the final hole.

As Tiger approached the final green at little after 4pm people were cheering and chanting his name. He was two over par on his round but he was ending strong. Ben and I even snapped a selfie with Tiger when he was on the green.

Well … what a difference one day can make in our lives.

Today was arguably the toughest day of Tigers professional career as the 14-time major champion made six bogeys, two double bogeys, a triple bogey and two birdies in todays round of 82 at TPC Scottsdale.

He showed balance and a sense of humor, however, in his post round interview when he said,

“We all have days like this … unfortunately mine was in a public setting. But we all have days like this and we take the good with the bad. And even on the bad days we keep fighting.”

So, what do you do on the days when you place 132nd in a field of 132 players?

Here are 9 quick things I try to remember when I have a bad day!

1. You are never quite as high or low as you think.

2. In life you will have plenty of fans, tons of critics and just a few real friends.

3. The struggling you go through today will develop the strength you need tomorrow.

4. “When you win, say nothing. When you lose, say less.” Paul Brown

5. Don’t let peoples compliments get to your head and don’t let peoples criticism get to your heart.

6. Do not allow what occurred yesterday to dominate today.

7. Sometimes the worst things that happen to us put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us.

8. You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one.

9. Do not allow your past to determine your future.

  1. One of the takeaways to this is that Tiger could be on the verge of shooting a 65 next week in La Jolla. That would be fun to watch!
